February 12, 2011

[BPSDB]The homeopathy-busting 10:23 Campaign has clearly rattled a few cages and Mike Adams of NaturalNews has finally come up with a rebuttal argued in his usual style. (more…)

Homeopathy Awareness Week

June 22, 2009

[BPSDB]
I gather that last week was “Homeopathy Awareness Week“. Doesn’t seem to have made much of an impact which is a shame because people really need to be informed about homeopathy and be aware of what it actually is. (more…)

“Orthodox Medicine Opposing Homeopathy”

May 18, 2009

[BPSDB]This is a constant refrain from the homeopaths: that orthodox doctors are in some sort of conspiracy against them. This supposes that doctors would prefer their patients to not recover rather than prescribe homeopathy. I know doctors have a bit of a reputation for arrogance but the belief that they would prefer patients to die rather than prescribe a treatment that works just because they don’t understand how it works seems to be going a bit far. In fact, the evidence in support of this thesis is thin even by homeopathic standards. (more…)

Ofquack’s Guide For Homeopaths

February 10, 2009

[BPSDB]I’ve been reading Ofquack’s criteria for professional registration of CAM practitioners here, after Deano on the Bad Science forum pointed out some of the inanities to be found therein. It’s quite scary that this sort of stuff is receiving Establishment backing but as Private Eye and others have pointed out, Charles Windsor has been pushing strongly for this. Consider the Windsors’ favourite CAM, homeopathy, for example. (more…)

An Admission About Homeopathy

May 7, 2008

I watched the “Wright Stuff” deabate about homeopathy on Channel 5 this morning while waiting for a gas engineer to turn up. Jayney Goddard (some sources spell her nane “Janey Goddard” but I believe that is not her preferred spelling), the President of the Complementary Medicine Association made an interesting admission about homeopathic treatments.

It’s All Gone Quiet Over There

April 1, 2008

Anybody who has read the works of homeopaths such as Dana Ullman or Sue Young will know they often bang on about “allopathy” and “iatrogenic illnesses”. Allopathy means “intending to cause symptoms different to those manifested by the patient” (homeopathy means “cause the same symptoms…”)  “iatrogenic” means “caused by doctors” although homeopaths use it to refer to the side effects of drugs. So if a patient had been killed by a medication sold by a big industry, you’d expect the homeopaths to be shouting about it from the roof-tops, wouldn’t you?
